The LGBTQ musical romantic comedy podcast of your dreams

The Flame tells the story of two women: Jamie, a queer bar owner, and Sam, the woman selling the building the bar inhabits, and the inevitable sparks that end up flying between them! With the help of her best friend, Heather, and bar regular Jo, can the residents of The Flame keep the bar alive? Or can Sam’s friend Mel help her work through her complicated feelings about her father’s death and the building she grew up in before she makes a rash decision?

We’re planning an 8 episode musical arc, which we’ll record through the end of 2020/early 2021, and release as a Lez Hang Out Production in Summer 2021. It will feature an entirely original story, book, and score.

In 2016, Leigh and Ellie started Lez Hang Out, an LGBTQ podcast about representation in the media. For the past four years, we have been writing and producing original music based on our favorite lesbian TV shows and movies.

We both grew up performing in musical theatre and we met at a women’s a cappella festival in San Francisco. Our love for music and positive representation resonates through everything that we do. The next logical step was for us to write and star in our own podcast musical.

We wrote the story and realized we couldn’t do this alone! We reached out to Valerie Rose Lohman for guidance and she loved the project so much that she hopped on board as our executive producer and to play the role of Mel. She got us in touch with Caitlyn Clear whose writing style has us in stitches after every draft.

The producers, director, writer and lead characters on this project are members of the LGBTQ community.  We are committed to adding to the great storytelling landscape supporting the LGBTQ community.  Your contribution will help elevate their work and passion.

We’ve been working all summer writing original songs and scripts and we can’t wait to bring it to your ears in June 2021!
